Embroidered Storytelling by Misha Shantz
March 12, 13 and 19, 1:00 PM/EST
For the past few years, my artistic practice has focused on an embroidered graphic novel telling the story of a time in my life when I was diagnosed with a chronic illness, endometriosis, and the years following where I learned how to live with what that meant. The story is told through embroidered illustration and cartoon as well as text. My novel is still a work in progress, nearing completion, and I invite you to flip through the digital pages of the story so far.
In addition to reading the story, you can join me in person to do some embroidery of your own. You can embroider your own piece to take home. Materials will be provided, and you do not need any prior experience. You can also become a part of my story by adding some stitches to one of my in-progress pieces. I have always felt like the story I am telling does not just belong to me, as it is such a common story, so I would welcome the addition of some marks made by hands other than my own.
