Frog in Hand presents TARANTA

Femme Folks Fest is delighted to host Frog in Hand, an exciting dance-theatre company in an Artistic Creation Residency during our 2026 Festival. Since 2012, they have been creating meaningful, accessible, and site-specific work shaped by the communities and spaces we all inhabit. As a network of storytellers, they infuse dance with theatre to support under-represented identities, promote wellbeing, and spark joy. The company is led by Artistic Director Colleen Snell.
Mid-way through their Residency, the company will honour us with a One-Night Only performance of TARANTA which celebrates female power and “women’s work”. Join us for an intimate, very special evening of creation, contemporary dance and feminine story. Post the performance the company will, in conversation, share their artistic process, the professional dancers’ life and more. A Do Not Miss.
Taranta is a fierce ensemble dance work by Frog in Hand’s Artistic Director Colleen Snell. It weaves an abstract narrative through compelling imagery, celebrating female power with a gestural language that is grounded, precise and explosive, drawing on motifs from agricultural work and “women’s work:” sewing, carding wool, spinning thread, scything grass, and making hay. Taranta aspires to commune with the ancient roots of female experience, underlining the enduring relevance of female rage.

Colleen Snell holds an MA in contemporary dance, and she is the Artistic Director of Frog in Hand, a dance company she co-founded. For over 10 years Colleen has devised and performed with Frog in Hand, generating cultural capital in community and advocating for contemporary dance in a regional setting.
